Music/Lyrics: Jason Robert Brown

Musical Type: Pre-Contemporary (1995)

Songs for a New World was Jason Robert Brown’s first major produced show. The show is more of an abstract musical – a theatrical song cycle revolving around a central theme of “the moment of decision”.


Parade

Music/Lyrics: Jason Robert Brown  Book: Alfred Uhry

Musical Type: Pre-Contemporary (1998)

This collaboration with Alfred Uhry premiered on Broadway in 1998. The show won JRB a Tony for “Best Original Score” and Uhry a Tony for “Best Book of a Musical”


The Last Five Years

Music/Lyrics/Book: Jason Robert Brown

Musical Type: Contemporary (2001)

Although it didn’t start out on Broadway, The Last Five Years was a huge success for Jason Robert Brown. It immediately earned him Drama Desk Awards for Best Music and Best Lyrics. And that was followed by countless revivals around the world, which continue to this date.


Urban Cowboy

Music/Lyrics: Jason Robert Brown, Jeff Blumenkrantz  Book: Aaron Latham, Phillip Oesterman

Musical Type: Contemporary (2003)

Unfortunately, Urban Cowboy did not receive the same level of success as his previous musicals. Closing after just 60 performances, it was considered by many to be a “flop”.

Musical Type: Contemporary (2007)

13 is a special show because the cast is made up entirely of teenagers! It has faced enormously growing success over the years, with tons of youth theatre revivals, a Broadway run, and a motion picture adaptation.


The Bridges of Madison County

Music/Lyrics: Jason Robert Brown  Book: Marsha Norman

Musical Type: Contemporary (2013)

Based on the 1992 bestselling novel, The Bridges of Madison County was another Broadway musical success. The show earned Jason Robert Brown a Tony for “Best Original Score” and “Best Orchestrations”.


Honeymoon in Vegas

Music/Lyrics: Jason Robert Brown  Book: Andrew Bergman

Musical Type: Contemporary (2013)

Based on Andrew Bergman’s film, Honeymoon in Vegas is a romantic comedy about an elopement in Las Vegas that doesn’t quite go as planned. It received relatively good reviews on Broadway.


Mr. Saturday Night

Music: Jason Robert Brown  Lyrics: Amanda Green  Book: Billy Crystal, Lowell Ganz, Babaloo Mandel

Musical Type: Contemporary (2021)

Mr. Saturday Night had its start at Barrington Stage Company in Massachusetts and moved to Broadway in 2022. The show received positive reviews and earned JRB a nomination for Best Score.
