Songs for a New World was Jason Robert Brown’s first major production. This abstract theatrical song cycle revolves around the central theme of “the moment of decision.”


Parade

Music/Lyrics: Jason Robert Brown  Book: Alfred Uhry

Musical Type: Pre-Contemporary (1998)

This collaboration with Alfred Uhry premiered on Broadway in 1998. The show earned Jason Robert Brown a Tony for “Best Original Score” and Uhry a Tony for “Best Book of a Musical.”


The Last Five Years

Musical Type: Contemporary (2001)

The Last Five Years was a significant success for Jason Robert Brown, earning him Drama Desk Awards for Best Music and Best Lyrics. The show has seen countless revivals worldwide.


Urban Cowboy

Musical Type: Contemporary (2003)

Urban Cowboy opened on Broadway in 2003, but did not receive the same level of success as his previous shows. Closing after just 60 performances, it was widely regarded as a “flop”.

13 had its Broadway debut in 2008, standing out with its all-teen cast and band. Over the years, the show has inspired numerous youth theatre revivals along with a film adaptation.


The Bridges of Madison County

Musical Type: Contemporary (2013)

The Bridges of Madison County emerged as another Broadway success. The show earned Jason Robert Brown Tony Awards for “Best Original Score” and “Best Orchestrations.”


Honeymoon in Vegas

Music/Lyrics: Jason Robert Brown  Book: Andrew Bergman

Musical Type: Contemporary (2013)

Honeymoon in Vegas premiered in New Jersey and opened on Broadway in 2015. The show earned JRB Drama Desk nominations for Outstanding Music, Lyrics, and Orchestrations.


Mr. Saturday Night

Music: Jason Robert Brown  Lyrics: Amanda Green  Book: Billy Crystal, Lowell Ganz, Babaloo Mandel

Musical Type: Contemporary (2021)

Mr. Saturday Night had its start at Barrington Stage Company in Massachusetts and moved to Broadway in 2022. The show earned JRB a Tony Award nomination for Best Score.


The Connector

Music/Lyrics: Jason Robert Brown  Book: Jonathan Marc Sherman

Musical Type: Contemporary (2024)

The Connector premiered Off-Broadway at the MCC Theatre in 2024. The musical earned numerous nominations from the Outer Critics Circle Awards and the Drama Desk Awards.
