About the Founder

My name is Stacy Karyn, and I’m the founder of Theatre Trip.

I started the website in 2018 after noticing the lack of centralized, reliable lists of theatre degree programs. I also wanted a place to document my theatre experiences while traveling.

Over time, my focus shifted toward musical theatre, which is the area I’m most passionate about. Theatre Trip gradually evolved into a dedicated resource centered on musical theatre repertoire, reference lists, and structured discovery tools.

Theatre Trip’s Journey

The Best Audition Song Guides quickly became a hit in 2019, and I’ve continued to create them ever since. I now have a massive offline database that I use to reference and match best pick songs for these types of posts. By 2022, Theatre Trip was reaching 100,000-200,000 visitors each month, which allowed me to begin working on the site full time.

Since creating Theatre Trip, I’ve also published The Thespian’s Bucket List, available on Amazon. In addition, I created a digital tool called The Cast Album List, which is a complete catalogue of theatre-related albums that you can track and rate after each listen!

Today, Theatre Trip has grown into one of the largest online databases for musical theatre. Here, you’ll find everything from themed and alphabetical lists of musicals to song guides, discovery tools, and DIY Repertoire Books tailored to specific vocal types.

Otherwise, you can find anything you need by using the search bar at the top right of the page! You can search for any musical, character name, or topic that you’d like to learn more about.

My Background

One of the best times of my life was attending Hunter College and earning my BA in theatre. I can’t think of another time when I was so completely surrounded by creative, welcoming people, studying the absolute best subject, and growing in my craft at such a fast pace.

I took full advantage of my time at university by working as the Senior Drama Editor for the school’s student-run journal, and picking up side jobs in both the costume department and the scene shop. One of my proudest moments of my studies was deciding to produce a “Bad Play Festival”. Ironically, the project ultimately led to my receiving the Charles Elson Award for Excellence in Production Work in Theatre, and it became one of the most memorable nights of theatre for many of those involved.

After graduation, I worked on Broadway for the incredible Roundabout Theatre Company as an education intern and off-Broadway as a production assistant. From there, I completed a TEFL certification in teaching English as a foreign language, and a TESOL Drama certification in teaching English through drama. I used what I learned to lead theatre-based workshops around the world, helping people build connections and strengthen their English skills.

Together, these diverse perspectives and experiences in theatre laid the foundation for what would eventually become Theatre Trip, now one of the leading resources for musical theatre.
